Wolves are viewed both negatively and positively in Norse culture. On the one side, they are said to stand for chaos and destruction, while on the other, they represent bravery, loyalty, wisdom, and protection. Freki and Geri are fearless and fiercely devoted to Odin. The Viking sign of protection, the valknut, contains the power of Odin. Viking warriors would wear jewelry or apply the Valknut sign on their bodies before engaging in combat. They felt they would be protected in the wars because of the Valknut symbol. If they weren’t able to survive, Odin appeared as the Valknut emblem and welcomed them to Valhalla.
