The lion also symbolizes the power of the Evangelist’s word; the wings symbolize the spiritual elevation, while the halo is the traditional Christian symbol of holiness. The words abbreviated in the book holded by the Lion “Pax tibi Marce, evangelista meus” meaning “May Peace be with you, Mark, my evangelist”, the Venetian tradition states that an angel appeared to St. Mark and said those words.
